Art Club

South's Art Club is getting ready for a great year of making art and being creative. This year we will be focusing on Fiber Arts. We will be using different decorative surface techniques, doing some sewing and stitching and showing off our work at the Spring Fling.

Green Team

Wow! South Stars are getting greener each year. As the students and staff became more aware of what and how to recycle, we doubled the amount of recycling we collected during the last school year. Now we are picking up recycling twice a week and becoming more interested in recycling new items.

South is teaming up with TerraCycle, a company that collaborates with producers of items that can be tricky to recycle. TerraCycle will take the items and donate money to the school or to a non-profit organization of our choice. We could even plant a tree. This year we will be collecting juice pouches! We could earn up to $.03 a pouch but we need to send them in 50 pound shipments. If everyone works together we can make a difference in the environment and in our school.

Library Helpers

At South each year approximately 55 students are chosen to be library helpers. These helpers must be well behaved, perform well academically and be able make up class work they miss due to their library helper position. There are both open check out helpers and class helpers.

Class helpers bring their classes’ library books back to the library ten minutes before their class is scheduled to arrive. They check in books, shelve books and run errands as needed.

Open check out helpers assist during open check out times. These students collect library books from the classroom, check in and out books, shelve books and run errands as needed. They are a vital part of our library program at South Elementary. They learn to be responsible and show a strong work ethic.
