South Elementary Teachers Bring Hands-On Science Resources to Classrooms Through Bostik Partnership

Three South Elementary School teachers gained new resources to support hands-on science instruction through the 2026 Arkema Science Teacher Program, hosted in mid-August at the Bostik plant in Disputanta as the start of the 2026-27 School Year approached.
Third-grade Chair Ms. Megan Fisk, fourth-grade Chair Ms. Mary Ellen Flickinger, and fifth-grade Chair Ms. Chantell Mae participated in the program after Arkema/Bostik, a local blown plastic film manufacturer, and their plant manager, Mr. Bruce Boulton, reached out to the school this spring.
During the visit, Mr. Boulton provided a safety orientation and an overview of the plant before the teachers toured the manufacturing facility. Participants also explored hands-on science kits and learned how to access accompanying digital resources to support classroom instruction.
Each participating teacher received a science kit for classroom use and a $500 stipend. South Elementary also received a $500 donation to purchase additional science supplies.
“I especially loved this opportunity because it connected our teachers with a business right here in our own community while also providing resources that will directly benefit our students,” South Elementary Principal Ms. Susan Braswell said. “It gave our teachers an opportunity to see real-world science and manufacturing in action and then bring some of that excitement back into their classrooms.”
The Arkema Science Teacher Program helps elementary teachers build confidence and enthusiasm for teaching hands-on science. Through the program, teachers work with scientifically trained mentors to explore their kits, understand the scientific principles behind the activities, and bring those learning opportunities to their students.
“We are incredibly appreciative of Bruce Boulton and the Arkema/Bostik team for reaching out to South Elementary and investing in our teachers and students,” Braswell added. “Partnerships like this are such a wonderful example of the support our schools receive from our local community.”
